My name is Carly and I am a jewellery designer from Penzance, Cornwall.
JeDeCo Jeweller Carly Hitchens
- Tell us about yourself and your creations.
I am inspired by the molecular structures within crystals and minerals. I translate the mathematical formulas and geometric forms using digital technology. Each piece of jewellery is 3D printed in white nylon before being hand dyed with silver findings.
Digital technology has become integral to my work and I want to create discussion around my jewellery, exploring how science and art can come together, enabling others to be open to new concepts of designs
- How did you start, and why did you choose your craft?
I started doing an evening course in jewellery at my local arts centre in Penzance. I have always been creative and love all types of jewellery, so I thought let’s give it a go. This is where it all began……….I started to buy to some tools to get me started and then my sister told me that I could do a degree in Silversmithing and Jewellery at my local college. As they say, the rest is history!
- What is your favourite piece ?
My favourite and one my most popular pieces is the Laue Pendant. I love the interlocking forms and shapes within the design. It is fun and easy to wear, but also stands out in a crowd.

- What is your best achievement?
My best achievement is exhibiting at Milan Jewellery Week 2023 and completing my MA in Jewellery at Arts University Plymouth 2021.
- What does creativity mean to you?
Creativity means being true to yourself and expressing/communicating your ideas in a way for everyone to enjoy.
- Are there any celebrities (dead or alive) you would love to see wearing your designs?

- Do you have favourite materials you like working with?
I now love working with PA12 Nylon and as it is so versatile but I still like to add in some silver as well to complete each piece of jewellery.
- Which is your most meaningful jewel?
My most meaningful jewel is an 18ct gold sapphire and diamond cluster ring. It was my mother’s engagement ring. I hardly wear it but when I do, it always reminds me of her.

- An interesting thing about you ?
I love Chinese food, but I cannot stand marshmallows or jelly. I have not eaten them since I was 3 years old, I do not like the taste, texture or feel of them. Yuck!
